If you have read our previous blogs, you will know that we have focused on ways to ensure your customers remain loyal, but what are you doing to ensure you can expect the same loyalty from your employees? Employee engagement is as important as customer loyalty.
As Richard Branson said “If you look after your staff, they will look after your customers.”
You might be quick to say “of course our staff are happy, they said so in their last appraisal and we pay them well”. Yet according to a study by Dale Carnegie, up to 71% of employees are not fully engaged. This means that 71% of the people you trust to deal with your key clients on a day to day basis are not necessarily fully behind the business and what it stands for.
This statistic is quite staggering, especially when you consider how much difference a highly engaged workforce can have on productivity. The same study also found that companies with a high employee engagement outperform others by up to 202%.
Whilst it would perhaps be unrealistic to expect employees to ever be as passionate about the business as its owners / directors, you should surely be looking to increase their engagement levels to a degree. For employees to become more engaged, they themselves need to feel respected and appreciated.
Have you ever taken the time to survey your employees and measure their engagement levels?
We have worked with a number of businesses to carry out internal surveys and more importantly analyse those results and act upon them. Showing your employees that you take on board what they have to say and action them.
